As Relief Society sisters, we have a wonderful opportunity to uplift and support each other through acts of kindness and ministering. Whether you're looking for a thoughtful gift to brighten someone's day or a meaningful way to express your love, here are some easy and affordable ministering gift ideas that are sure to be appreciated.
1. Homemade Treats
This is a classic idea. If you know your ministering sister has a birthday coming up, or they had a hard day at work or home, a homemade treat might be just the thing that makes their day brighter. You can even have fun with this by packaging the treat up in a cute box of bag. You can even include a handwritten card to share the recipe if you know it is something they will love! Keep in mind that, for the sisters with allergies or intolerances, this may not be the best choice to give as a gift! Be sure to check with the sister about any allergies they might have before making them something sweet.

2. Personalized Notebooks
If you're more crafty, and prefer to give something handmade, a personalized notebook could be an excellent gift! Buy an inexpensive notebook or journal, and customize it with uplifting quotes or scriptures! Use washi tape, stickers, create a collage out of quotes from the Ensign or other books and magazines, or just write a kind note on the inside cover. This is a great gift for the sisters who love to write, take notes in church, journal, or plan out their day! You can add some light to your sister's life every time they open their journal.
3. Self-Care Kits
This could be a good choice if you want to make these for many sisters, instead of just a couple. You can find little items in the travel section of stores such as lotion or a nail file. Then add to it with a packet of hot chocolate, a pair of fuzzy socks, a face mask, or a candle. You can put all of these items into a small basket or bag. Just like the "Boo Basket" or "Burr Basket" trend on social media. These do not need to be expensive! But it can be a great reminder for your ministering sister to take a break from the business of her life, and take some time for herself.
I had a friend give me a self care basket one time in high school during Tech Week for a musical I participated in. She gave me fuzzy socks, a face mask, a bath bomb, and a couple of my favorite chocolates. It was the most thoughtful gift I could've received right then!
4. Plant or Flower Cuttings
For the sister who loves gardening, buy a small flower pot that she can decorate, with a pack of seeds for a beautiful flower! Or, instead of flowers, try an herb! There are so many easy plants that you can gift that can live indoors during the cold months. If you have a garden of your own, arrange a bouquet of flowers that you grew, and deliver them to her! Or stop by with some of your home-grown veggies! Just knowing that you are thinking of your ministering sisters can help them to feel loved and appreciated!
5. Ideas for Bookworms
I'm not much of a reader myself, but I know how much my bookworm friends love book-related gifts! Bookmarks, handmade or not, are a great gift! My mom and I used to make Christmas ornaments out of old books pages and give them to teachers for Christmas. It was one of my favorite gifts we made! Another book-related idea could be a set of pens, colored pencils or stickers for marking in their books. I don't know how often readers like to write in their books, but this can be great for marking up your scriptures!
6. Handwritten Letters
When I was in Activity Days as a primary child, we were each set up with an elderly woman in our ward to be penpals with. I will never forget how much I loved writing letters to the sweet sister in my ward that I was partnered up with, and how excited I would be each Sunday to see her! It was a wonderful way to start ministering at such a young age. As adults, people rarely write letters to each other, but it is such a thoughtful thing to do! I think we should start doing more of that! When my husband and I moved into our first family ward, we received a written letter from one of the sisters in the ward, thanking us for the testimonies we shared in our introductory talks, and welcoming us to the ward. I felt so much love, even though I didn't know the sister well. It was a wonderful way to be welcomed into a new ward, and to be ministered to.
7. Craft Kits
I'm super crafty, and I always want more craft supplies. But some things are easier to gift than others. One thing I love is embroidery, and that is an easy thing to gift! Some new thread colors, fabric, or a kit with a pattern to follow, can all be great gifts! On the opposite side, as someone who loves to embroider, an embroidered gift for someone is also a beautiful gift to give someone! Whether it's an apron, tote bag, hat, sweater, or something to hang.
Another crafty idea could be a kit with something fun for your sister to do with her family! It may be helpful just to have something to keep young kids busy. That is still ministering!
Ministering is all about showing love and support to our sisters in the gospel. These gift ideas are not only affordable and easy to make but also convey heartfelt sentiments. By sharing these thoughtful gifts, we can strengthen our bonds and uplift each other, creating a more connected and loving community within our Relief Society. Happy ministering!
